Reaching the Doctor
After Hours
During non-office hours and on weekends, please call the office
(205-933-9036 or 205-930-4026) and you will be contacted by one of
us or the on-call physicians. This allows us to pursue continuing
education, honor commitments to medical societies and committees,
and lead a family life. On weekends, no narcotic medication nor
routine refills will be called in. If your problem seems serious
enough to warrant this type of medication, you will be instructed to
go to an Emergency Room or to a free-standing emergency clinic to be
evaluated (be sure to check your insurance about going to the ER).
The emergency physician will either begin treatment, or, if
necessary, consult the Otolaryngologist (ENT physician) on-call.
If the problem is truly urgent and you cannot wait for the
Otolaryngologist on-call to return your call, go directly the
Emergency Room most appropriate.
Inquiring by
Telephone
Our secretary or nurse is prepared to handle many routine
questions. They will consult us regarding less routine matters and
then relay the answers to you as soon as possible. Even when we are
in the hospital, we contact the office every few hours and in
emergencies can always be reached.
Commitments to patients in surgery, the hospital, and in the
office make it very difficult for us to talk on the phone during
office hours. Non-emergency questions that you feel cannot be
relayed through the nurse or secretary will be answered after
hospital and office patients have been seen. Please leave more than
one telephone number where you can be reached in the evening. We
cannot leave messages of a medically sensitive nature on answering
machines or voice mail.

physician for diagnosis and treatment.
